🧄❄️ FROZEN GARLIC AT A “SECOND-WEDDING BANQUET”?
William Wang often jokes that Chinese community and campaign dinners can feel like “second-wedding banquets.”
A packed banquet hall, guests taking turns on stage, group photos, applause and plenty of cheering. Everything looks familiar.
This time, the “wedding banquet” came with a Taiwanese twist:
“Tòng-suán! Tòng-suán! Tòng-suán!”
Literally, it looks like “Frozen Garlic.” In Taiwanese Hokkien, it means “Get elected!”
It was not really a wedding. It was a celebration of community, culture and democratic participation, bringing different Asian traditions together here in Richmond.

🧄❄️ 「二婚現場」竟然出現冷凍大蒜？
老王經常笑稱，華人社團或競選晚宴，熱鬧起來總有一點像「二婚現場」。
宴會廳、輪流上台、大合照、掌聲與歡呼，一樣不少。
這次的「二婚現場」，還多了一點台灣味：
「凍蒜！凍蒜！凍蒜！」
字面直譯就是 「冷凍大蒜」。在台灣閩南語中，「凍蒜」就是祝候選人 「當選！」
這不是真的婚宴，而是一場結合社區、文化與民主參與的聚會，讓不同的亞洲文化在列治文相遇。
